The weekend began with bad weather conditions in several regions of Argentina, as the National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a warning for strong storms with the possibility of hail and gusts. The population is advised to take preventive measures, such as removing objects that obstruct water drainage, avoiding outdoor activities, and not seeking shelter near trees or power poles that may fall.
To minimize the risk of being struck by lightning, it is recommended not to stay on beaches, rivers, lagoons, or swimming pools. It is important to be alert to the potential fall of hail and to stay informed through local authorities about the evolution of the weather situation.
The SMN predicts that the storms will be accompanied by frequent electrical activity, possible hail falls, heavy rainfall in short periods, and strong winds. Rainfall accumulation is estimated between 20 and 40 mm, and it may exceed that figure in localized areas. The yellow alert issued by the SMN affects areas of southern Buenos Aires province during Saturday.
According to the SMN report, isolated storms are expected in the areas under yellow alert, some locally strong. It is advised to prepare an emergency backpack with flashlight, radio, important documents, and mobile phone. Among the SMN recommendations is not to take out the trash during this period of storm alert.
